Anti-satellite SEO – effective webmaster-tools seo-strategy

Anti-satellite-seo

Anti-satellite-seo

Building satellite-domains is a well known seo-strategy to help main websites. The idea is to build simple, quick and dirty websites. They are not made for users but for crawlers. They core is one or some links to the main webpage. It is clear and simple, but of course Google dislikes this. The websites and the links are made for seo, not for users. So you have a lot of trouble to hide yourself as the webmaster. This is dangerous and costs a lot of work. I often work with another strategy that is different. It’s like the opposite – so I call it „anti-satellite-SEO“. It’s pure white-hat, I think. Read on »

YouTube Channel Avatar

As I wrote here I am ( in real life ) artist. Since 4 years me and my wacom graphic-tablet paint also digital pictures – usually with Adobe Photoshop. In May 2007 I did the first „speedpainting“. This is a video that shows the process of painting as a time-lapsed video. Please visit my youTube-Channel if you like. If not you could find in this article the most successful videos (just in terms of views). In summery around 4.150.000 people view my videos until today. Proud of that :-) Read on »

Google streetview: 2 min holiday in Paris

Streetview holyday Paris

Streetview holyday Paris

I did this half a jear ago, but I could show this here again: a 2 min. fullspeed drive through Paris, France. We had a big discussion in Germany about the pro’s and contra’s of Google Streetview. Many people fear that their privacy gets damaged – for example when the world could have a view into their gardens (!). As a reaction I made the „short-holyday-video“. For that I took about 1500 screenshots while moving with streetview through Paris. Then I composed these images together as a timelapsed video. Here it is: Read on »

New Bing image-search starts in Germany

Bing images Germany

Bing images Germany

Just a short news: today Bing launches it’s new image-search also in Germany. The english version is online since mid of december (see: „Bing image-search relaunch – Dec 2010„). Ok, it’s not the full truth: Bing changes the new image search last friday – but today they made it publik via twitter. But anyway: As I said before, in terms of usability the new Bing image-search is quit nice. It could be a little bit faster – and (in Germany) the results could be better. From my point of view Google has indexed much more images. So they have the better choice to find the best results. Read on »

Extreme high-formats in Google’s image-search results

High format images

High format images

Since mid-December I found some extreme high-formats in the Google image search. And not only in the inage-search but  also in the results of universal search on the main Google result-page. I suspect that it is a test. However, this test took quite a while. Since at least mid-December, the extreme vertical formats can be found at Google . It looks a little bit strange because you can’t idetify anything. I made a sample screen: Read on »

The relationship between search ranking-factors

Search ranking factors

Search ranking factors

Search-ranking factors are hip these days! SEOmoz has just called to nominate the 200 leading SEO experts worldwide to create the „overall ranking factors 2011“ list. The german „Seonaut“ thinks about absolute unknown ranking-factors like „motivation“ (but only in german, sorry). As nice as the search-ranking-factors may be, but I think many people forget something crucial: not the factors themselfes is the question but the relationship between them. Of course they are neccessary, but even if you know every factor, you won’t know anything… Read on »

How to analyse a logfile (eg. check crawling-rate of images)

Logfile analysis

Logfile analysis

As mentioned in this article I have checked my server-logfiles. I want to know how often the googlebot and the google-imagesbot visit my sites per day. The question ist „How often does Google crawl my sites?“ – „What is my daily crawling-rate?“ –  This artikle is about this: how can I analyse my own logfiles. What programms do I need? And what should I do – step by step? Here the way I do it. The following method to analyse the logfiles is manually. You can be sure that no script or programm does a mistake. Read on »

What is hotlinking? How to find and protect hotlinks…

Hotlinking - definition and protection

Hotlinking - definition and protection

First of all: one year ago hotlinking was a big problem. But Google learns a lot from spammers. Today I don’t see hotlinking as an actual problem. Ok, what is hotlinking? Lets say you have a website. On your websites are images. Your photos – you make them and you are the copyright-holder. After some time Google indexes your images. So they can be found in Googles image search. Your photo is nice and well-optimized, and you get some traffic with the link from the google image search. But some day you lost the complete traffic… Read on »

Matt Cutts

Matt Cutts

Ok, ist an old one, but the english version of this blog is new and for that I want to show some „highlights“. One is the speedpainting of Matt Cutts that I painted about one year ago. It was my new-year-greeting to the german seosphere in 2010. The video shows the painting process as a time-lapsed video. The digital painting with photoshop cs3 and wacom tablet took about two hours and 20 layers. Read on »

Image Search news [1]: Google indexes new images very fast

Google's algorithm

Google's algorithm

Currently Google indexes new images very fast. My new images could be found in Googles image search after 24 hours. Absolute record time – the image search was never faster. Maybe the reason is a changed distribution of tasks between the Googlebots: usually the „Googlebot-Image/1.0“ crawls the images, but actually the normal „Googlebot/2.1“ does most of his job. But a look on my logfiles brings some surprize… Read on »
