Happy Holidays from Google (and me)

Happy Holidays from Google

Happy Holidays from Google

Happy Holidays – from Google with a nice doodle (logo) – and from me. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Google shows on the homepage a nice doodle. It shows a lot of toys – seems to be all toys of the world that are on their way to Google-land. Looks a little bit like the Little Nemo Doodle. Of course I will show you in the article the last year’s Christmas-doodle. And – because many people like it – I present some german stamps – the „Christmas-stamps“. Enjoy :-) Read on »

Grimm's Fairy Tales (Doodle)

Grimm’s Fairy Tales (Doodle)

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (Brothers Grimm) were German academics, linguists, cultural researchers, and authors. But they became worldfamous because they collected folklore. They are among the most well-known storytellers of European folk tales, and their work popularized such stories as „Cinderella„, „The Frog Prince„, „Hansel and Gretel„, „Rapunzel„, „Rumpelstiltskin„, and „Snow White„. Their first collection of folk tales, Children’s and Household Tales, was published in 1812. Google celebrates the 200th birthday of  Grimm’s Fairy Tales with a really nice doodle on the homepage. It shows the story of „Little red riding hood“ (also known under „Little red cap„) as an interactive comic-style doodle. Read on »

Major changes in the German Google Image Search

Major changes in Google's image search

Major changes in Google’s image search

The last weeks I observed many changes in Google’s image search. I usually focus on german image search but I also noticed some irritations on movements in the english / international image-search. Today I want to explain what happened in Germany – perhaps it may help to analyse other Google’s image-search versions. It’s allways like lost in the fog: are changes in the image search caused by changes to individual pages? Or has Google changed something fundamental to the algorithm? In Germany we have an „Image-Search Index„, called bidox. It oberserves the Top-100 positions of 5000 main keywords. Thanks to Ingo Henze for this free service. (What i describe in this article has nothing to do with the „porn-filter“!)

The History of SEO (Infographic)

History of SEO

Ok, the following infographic ist not what you might expect from it. It’s not a complex picture full of dates and milestones. It is very reduced :-) The question is: what is the next step of search engine optimization. I suspect seo will die. Not because the people who work in seo will be without work. But the methods they work on changes. Please notice in the following graphic the color of the hats :-) Read on »

Amazing Google Doodle! Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek (TOS) Doodle

Star Trek (TOS) Doodle

Today’s Doodle on the Google homepage celebrates „Star Trek: The Original Series“. On September 8th, 1966 the first episode of Star Trek was shown on NBC. It is an interective Doodle with four animated episodes. In the first scene we see Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Captain Kirk, MacCoy, Lt. Zulu and … perhaps Scotty (this would make sense) or a redshirt (who is typically the badass in the stories). In the next scene some Tribbles enter the room before Capt. Kirk and Scotty or redshirt are beamed onto an typically Star Trek planet. Read on »
